SUMMARY:Korngold's 'Lieder des Abschieds' and Mahler's 4th Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Following a magnificent performance of Strauss’ Four Last Songs of 2 years ago\, we welcome back soprano Rachel Nichols and conductor Robert Weaver to perform Korngold’s ‘Lieder des Abschieds’ and Mahler’s 4th Symphony.  The rest of the programme is Strauss: Waltzes from ‘Der Rosenkavalier’ and Korngold: ‘Glück\, das mir verblieb‘ Marietta’s song in ‘Die tote Stadt’ (Act 1). \nErich Korngold was an internationally acclaimed composer before he fled Nazi Germany in 1934\, fleeing to the US where he went on to became one of the most important and influential composers in Hollywood history: the original John Williams/John Barry! \nRachel Nicholls is widely recognised as one of the most exciting dramatic operatic sopranos of her generation.  Her Brünnhilde in the complete Ring cycle for Longborough Festival Opera in 2013 received the highest critical acclaim.  She is also in demand as a concert artist and has performed with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Field\, the CBSO\, and London Mozart Players and under conductors including Sirs Andrew Davis\, Colin Davis\, Roger Norrington and Simon Rattle. \nProgramme included with ticket and accompanied children free in Semi-Circle and both Upper and Lower Galleries.  Within each area\, tickets are for unallocated seating within that area. \nTickets from October
